Poole Students Make History, Secure Podium Finish at

International Case Competition in Mexico

By: Jayden Ford | Chief Marketing Officer, Pack Global Case Club | 2 min read

A team of undergraduate students from the NC State Poole College of Management recently achieved a major milestone, securing 3rd Place Overall at the International Business and Management Case Competition (BMCC), hosted by Universidad Panamericana in Guadalajara, Mexico.

The team, consisting of Ben Cole, Jillian Collins, Preksha Jain, and Fletcher Sholar, represented the Wolfpack, competing against 15 top international business schools in a rigorous, week-long marathon of live business cases.

โ€œThis competition taught me to trust, empower, and build connection.โ€

Preksha Jain emphasized how these vital lessons extended beyond casing and analytical thinking, shaping them as teammates and leaders.

The competition challenged the students with complex business problems from prominent Mexican companies. The team's performance showed remarkable consistency and analytical rigor:

  • Case 1 (Preliminaries): A 6-hour case for Artex Muebles, resulting in a 2nd place finish in their division.

  • Case 2 (Preliminaries): A 24-hour case for Industrias Tajรญn, where they secured 1st place in their division, earning them a coveted spot in the finals.

  • Case 3 (Finals): The final 6-hour case focused on Atlas FC Femenil. Their presentation of a blend of technological, marketing, and strategic insights secured the historic 3rd Place Overall finish.

Beyond the technical analysis and presentation skills, the students uniformly cited the power of teamwork and emotional connection as the key to their success.

โ€œThe Pack is greater than simply the sum of the Wolves.โ€

Ben Cole, reflecting on the team's dynamics, affirmed this powerful sentiment.

The team was supported by coaches Dr. Pieter Verhallen, Dan Webb, and Ana Cristina Gonzรกlez de Alba, whose guidance proved instrumental. Additionally, the teamโ€™s ambassador, Emilio, received the Best Ambassador Award, further underscoring the positive impact the NC State contingent made on the international stage.

โ€œRepresenting the United States in the finals of such a prestigious global event is an incredible feat. Incredibly proud of the team and how they supported each other towards this phenomenal achievement. โ€œ

Dr. Pieter Verhallen noted the teamโ€™s strong performance and their role representing the United States.

This historic accomplishment demonstrates the high caliber of students within the Poole College of Management and their ability to #ThinkAndDo on a global level. It is a powerful example of the high-impact experiences available to NC State students, turning classroom knowledge into career-shaping opportunities.
